Matthew Dent
British graphic designer commissioned through a 2005 Royal Mint public competition to design new reverses for UK coinage. Dent's 2008 Royal Shield series carved up the Royal Coat of Arms across the 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p and 50p — six denominations whose reverses, when arranged together, form the complete shield. The £1 took the entire shield. The Royal Shield reverses ran from 2008 until the gradual reversion to definitive Britannia 50p designs from 2013 onwards.
