How much is the 2024 5 Pounds - Charles III Bond Films of the 2000s worth?

Verified sold prices for the 2024 5 Pounds - Charles III Bond Films of the 2000s run from £9.46 to £14.55 across 3 grades, taking the median for each grade. Condition makes the difference, so check the grade table above before pricing one.

What does the Bond Films of the 2000s £5 coin show?

It shows James Bond driving the hovercraft from the opening sequence of Die Another Day. The titles of the decade's Bond films make up the background, the 007 logo appears as it was styled in the 2000s, and a gun barrel effect encircles the design.

Who designed the 2000s Bond £5?

The Royal Mint credits the reverse to Matt Dent and Christian Davies, the pair behind all the decade coins in the Six Decades of 007 collection. The obverse carries the coinage portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings.

Is the Bond Films of the 2000s £5 rare?

Its scarcity cannot be measured yet. The Royal Mint has published no striking or sales figure for 2024-dated commemorative coins and gave no issue limit for the Brilliant Uncirculated version. The 2oz silver proof has a stated maximum coin mintage of 756.

Was the 2000s Bond £5 coin put into circulation?

No. It was sold by the Royal Mint as a Brilliant Uncirculated collector coin in a pack. The Mint says £5 crowns are intended as souvenirs rather than for everyday use, although the proclamation that authorised the coin does make it legal tender.

How do I identify the 2024 5 Pounds - Charles III Bond Films of the 2000s?

Check the weight 28.28g and diameter 38.61mm and the metal (copper-nickel) against the specification table on this page. The reverse design is described above.

History and design

The fifth coin in the Royal Mint's Six Decades of 007 collection is given to the Bond films of the 2000s. The Mint names Die Another Day, Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace, and its packaging for the coin tells of the handover of the role from Pierce Brosnan to Daniel Craig. The coin is dated 2024 and sits in a seven-coin set, one coin for each decade and a completer, made as a licensed product with EON Productions and Danjaq.

It is a commemorative £5 crown and was never issued into change. The Royal Mint's own description of the denomination is that these coins "are intended as souvenirs rather than for everyday use, and are therefore rarely found in circulation". How many were made is not known. The Mint's commemorative sales figures stop at coins dated 2023, and the product page for the Brilliant Uncirculated coin shows no issue limit.

The reverse, credited to Matt Dent and Christian Davies, shows the hovercraft from the opening sequence of Die Another Day. The royal proclamation words it as James Bond driving a hovercraft set against a background of James Bond titles with the inscription 007.

As with the earlier coins, the film titles of the decade form the background. The 007 logo is drawn as it was styled in the 2000s, and the gun barrel effect that opens each film runs round the central design.

The obverse carries the coinage portrait of Charles III by Martin Jennings, with the inscription CHARLES III D G REX F D 5 POUNDS and the date 2024. The edge is milled, which the proclamation calls a grained edge.

Collecting notes

The Royal Mint sold the coin in a pack describing the handover from Brosnan to Craig. A coin kept in that pack should be free of the contact marks that loose crowns pick up quickly, so the packaging is the first thing to look for.

On spending it, the Royal Mint is cautious. It says that "while crowns are legal tender, banks are not required to accept them", and that policies vary between banks.

The silver proof is a different coin in size. The proclamation gives the £5 silver coin a weight of 62.86g and a diameter of 40mm, against 28.28g and 38.61mm for the cupro-nickel crown, and the Mint sold it as a 2oz silver proof with a maximum coin mintage of 756. Either side of this coin in the set are the 1990s coin and the 2010s coin.
