History and design
The Kindness 50p is the first of three coins the Royal Mint issued in 2026 to mark 100 years since the publication of A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh in 1926. Each coin in the set takes a theme from the stories. Kindness came first, followed by Loyalty and then Friendship, and all three were made in collaboration with The Walt Disney Company.
It is not Pooh's first appearance on a 50p. The Royal Mint's design list records nine Winnie the Pooh coins dated 2020 to 2022, all with Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The 2026 coins are a separate set with new artwork and the King's portrait.
The Kindness 50p was sold to collectors as a Brilliant Uncirculated coin. No release into circulation has been announced, the Mint's circulating mintage data lists no 2026 Winnie the Pooh 50p, and no sales figure has been published.
The Royal Mint credits the reverse to The Walt Disney Company and names no individual artist. The royal proclamation describes it as "a depiction of Winnie the Pooh holding a bouquet of flowers accompanied by the inscription Disney WINNIE THE POOH". Varieties and errors
The Royal Mint sold a second cupro-nickel version with the reverse printed in colour. It came in a pack with a pop-up element and is labelled as a limited edition of 15,000. No mint errors are documented.
Collecting notes
A plain Kindness 50p should be a Brilliant Uncirculated coin in its Royal Mint pack. Collectors who signed up for all three coins were offered a folder to house them, so the coin also turns up as part of a completed trio with the Loyalty 50p and the Friendship 50p. Loose coins should be checked for handling marks.
Colour on a coin offered as the limited colour edition should be the Mint's own printing, supplied in the pop-up pack. Colour applied to a plain coin after it left the Mint is not the same thing.
The design was also struck as a silver proof with colour, presented in an acrylic block, and as a 22 carat gold proof. Their maximum coin mintages are 4,611 and 135, which are ceilings set at launch and not totals sold.
