How much is the 2026 50 Pence - Charles III (Aardman Animations) worth?

Verified sold prices for the 2026 50 Pence - Charles III (Aardman Animations) run from £11.63 to £30.25 across 2 grades, taking the median for each grade. Condition makes the difference, so check the grade table above before pricing one.

Is the Aardman 50p in circulation?

No release into circulation has been announced. The Royal Mint launched the coin on 9 June 2026 as a collectable 50p sold in packs from its website, and its circulating mintage figures carry no 2026 entries. It is legal tender, but it is not a coin issued through banks.

How many Aardman 50p coins were made?

No figure has been published for the standard Brilliant Uncirculated coin. The Royal Mint states maximum mintages of 12,503 for the colour Brilliant Uncirculated coin, 5,011 for the silver proof colour coin and 110 for the gold proof. These are limits, not sales figures.

Who designed the Aardman 50p?

The Royal Mint credits the reverse to Aardman itself. The studio drew five of its characters around its own logo and star. The portrait of King Charles III on the obverse is by Martin Jennings.

Which characters are on the Aardman 50p?

Five: Morph, Feathers McGraw, Gromit, Wallace and Shaun the Sheep, as listed in the royal proclamation for the coin. They surround the Aardman logo and star at the centre, with the inscription AARDMAN 50 YEARS!

How do I identify the 2026 50 Pence - Charles III (Aardman Animations)?

Check the weight 8g and diameter 27.3mm and the metal (copper-nickel) against the specification table on this page. The reverse design is described above.

History and design

The Aardman 50p was launched on 9 June 2026 to mark the 50th anniversary of the animation studio, whose first production dates from 1976. The Royal Mint produced it in partnership with Aardman. To open the release, co-founder Peter Lord visited the Mint and struck one of the first coins, bringing Morph with him.

It is a collector coin. The Mint sold it from its website in packs, and no release to banks or post offices has been announced. The Royal Mint's circulating mintage figures do not yet include any coins dated 2026, and no figure has been published for the number sold.

The reverse was designed by Aardman. The royal proclamation describes it as "a depiction of the characters Morph, Feathers McGraw, Gromit, Wallace and Shaun the Sheep accompanied by the inscription AARDMAN 50 YEARS!". The Mint explains that the Aardman logo and star sit at the centre as a nod to the anniversary.

The denomination is on the other side. The obverse carries the portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings with the inscription CHARLES III D G REX F D 50 PENCE and the date 2026. The edge is plain.

Collecting notes

No recognised varieties or mint errors are documented for this coin.

The cupro-nickel coin exists in two finishes. The standard Brilliant Uncirculated coin came in a printed pack with no stated limit. A colour-printed version, in pop-out packaging, has a stated maximum of 12,503. The colour is printed on the reverse, so the two are easy to tell apart.

The silver proof is colour printed too, mounted in an acrylic block, with a maximum of 5,011. The gold proof is limited to 110 and was the first gold commemorative coin the Mint sold individually that was made from recycled gold. Visitors to the Royal Mint Experience could also strike their own Aardman 50p between 3 August and 5 October 2026.

Wallace and Gromit had appeared on a coin before, the Wallace and Gromit 50p of 2019.
