Is the Game of Thrones Fire 50p in circulation?

No. The Royal Mint sells it as a collectable coin, taking orders from 15 July 2026 with delivery expected that autumn. No release through banks or post offices has been announced, and the Mint's circulating mintage figures carry no 2026 entries.

How many Game of Thrones Fire 50p coins were made?

The Royal Mint has published no figure for the cupro-nickel coin, and its product pages state no limit for the plain or colour versions. Stated maximums exist only for the precious-metal coins: 7,511 for the silver proof colour coin and 110 for the gold proof.

Who designed the Game of Thrones 50p coins?

The Royal Mint credits both the Fire and Ice reverses to Ffion Rees. The coins were made in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products. The portrait of King Charles III on the obverse is by Martin Jennings.

Which dragon is on the Game of Thrones Fire 50p?

The Royal Mint does not name it. Its announcement says the design features one of Daenerys's dragons alongside the House Targaryen sigil, and the royal proclamation describes only a dragon's head with the inscription GAME OF THRONES.

Check the weight 8g and diameter 27.3mm and the metal (copper-nickel) against the specification table on this page. The reverse design is described above.

History and design

The Game of Thrones Fire 50p is one of a pair, Ice and Fire, that the Royal Mint announced on 15 July 2026 to mark 15 years since the television series first aired in April 2011. The Mint called it the first time the show had been celebrated on official UK coins. The pair was made in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products.

Orders opened at 9am on the day of the announcement, with delivery expected in autumn 2026. This is a collector coin sold direct by the Mint. No release into circulation has been announced, the Royal Mint's circulating mintage figures have no entries for 2026 yet, and no sales figure has been published.

The reverse is credited to Ffion Rees. The Mint describes it as showing one of Daenerys's dragons in close detail alongside the sigil of House Targaryen, and explains the theme by saying fire is emblematic of the Targaryen bloodline. The royal proclamation is briefer: "a depiction of a dragon's head and the inscription GAME OF THRONES".

The denomination is on the other side. The obverse carries the portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings with the inscription CHARLES III D G REX F D 50 PENCE and the date 2026. The edge is plain.

Collecting notes

No recognised varieties or mint errors are documented for this coin.

The cupro-nickel coin comes in two finishes: a plain Brilliant Uncirculated coin, and a colour-printed one in pop-out packaging. The Mint's pages state no maximum mintage for either. A coin still in its Royal Mint packaging is as issued, and a loose one should be checked for handling marks.

The silver proof is colour printed, set in an acrylic block and limited to a maximum of 7,511. The gold proof is limited to 110 and is made from recycled gold. Both figures are issue limits.

Its partner is the Game of Thrones Ice 50p, which shows the Night King.
