Common questions
How much is the 2026 50 Pence - Charles III (Game of Thrones - Fire) worth?
Verified sold prices for the 2026 50 Pence - Charles III (Game of Thrones - Fire) run from £9.87 to £12.88 across 2 grades, taking the median for each grade. Condition makes the difference, so check the grade table above before pricing one.
What is the difference between the two Game of Thrones Fire 50p coins?
The Royal Mint sells the cupro-nickel Fire 50p in two finishes. One is a plain Brilliant Uncirculated coin. The other carries the same dragon design with colour printing on the reverse and comes in pop-out packaging made for display.
Can you find the Game of Thrones Fire 50p in change?
Not as an issued circulating coin. The Royal Mint has sold it to order since 15 July 2026 and has announced no release through banks or post offices. Any example that turns up in change was bought first and then spent.
Is the coloured Game of Thrones Fire 50p limited?
The Royal Mint's product page for the colour Brilliant Uncirculated coin shows no maximum mintage, and no sales figure has been published. Stated limits apply only to the silver proof colour coin, at 7,511, and the gold proof, at 110.
What does the Game of Thrones Fire 50p show?
A dragon's head with the inscription GAME OF THRONES, in the words of the royal proclamation. The Royal Mint adds that it is one of Daenerys's dragons, shown alongside the sigil of House Targaryen, and credits the design to Ffion Rees.
How do I identify the 2026 50 Pence - Charles III (Game of Thrones - Fire)?
Check the weight 8g and diameter 27.3mm and the metal (copper-nickel) against the specification table on this page. The reverse design is described above.
History and design
Fire is half of the two-coin Game of Thrones set that the Royal Mint put on sale on 15 July 2026, fifteen years after the series began. The Mint built the pair around what it called the elemental duality of the series, the same two words found in the title of George R.R. Martin's novels, A Song of Ice and Fire, from which the show was adapted. Fire stands for House Targaryen and its dragons.
This entry covers the cupro-nickel coin, which the Mint sells plain and with colour printing. Neither was issued for circulation. Both are sold to order from the Mint's website, with delivery promised for autumn 2026, and the Royal Mint's circulating mintage figures contain nothing dated 2026 so far.
Ffion Rees is credited with the reverse. It shows a dragon, described by the Mint as one of Daenerys's, beside the Targaryen sigil, with the inscription GAME OF THRONES. The Mint does not say which of the dragons it is. On the colour version the same design is printed in colour.
The obverse has the Martin Jennings portrait of King Charles III, the inscription CHARLES III D G REX F D 50 PENCE and the date 2026. The edge is plain, and the coin matches a circulating 50p in size, weight and alloy.
Collecting notes
No recognised varieties or mint errors are documented for this coin.
Work out which finish you have first. The plain coin is bare metal throughout. The colour coin has printing on the reverse and was supplied in special edition pop-out packaging. The Mint's pages give no maximum mintage for either, and it has published no sales numbers, so nothing can yet be said about which is scarcer.
Condition is the main thing to check. A colour coin should be looked at closely for scratches in the printed surface, and any loose coin for fingerprints and contact marks.
The design was also struck as a colour-printed silver proof (maximum 7,511) and a gold proof (maximum 110). The first entry for this design is the Game of Thrones Fire 50p.
