History and design
This is a collector version of the 50 Pence - Charles III Concorde. The history below is that coin's; the mintage, varieties and collecting notes on its page do not apply to this strike.
The Concorde 50p was unveiled by the Royal Mint on 13 January 2026 at the Bristol Aerospace Museum, which the Mint calls the current home of Concorde. It marks 50 years since the aircraft's first commercial flight from the UK, a British Airways service from London Heathrow to Bahrain on 21 January 1976, and was made in partnership with British Airways and Airbus.
The Mint drew a link between the aircraft and the coin itself. Its press release says some of Concorde's engineers helped design the seven-sided shape of the 50p when the denomination was introduced in 1969.
This is a collector coin. It went on sale through the Royal Mint's website on launch day, no release to banks or post offices has been announced, and the Mint's circulating mintage data lists no Concorde 50p. No sales figure for the base-metal coin has been published.
The reverse is by the design agency Osborne Ross. The Royal Mint describes Concorde in flight against a split-flap departure board, with the aircraft's name set across the centre in the style of the board's letters. The royal proclamation words it as "a depiction of two Concorde aircraft upon a map accompanied by the inscriptions CONCORDE and 21 JANUARY 1976".
The obverse has the portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings, with the inscription CHARLES III D G REX F D 50 PENCE and the date 2026. The denomination therefore appears on the King's side of the coin, not on the reverse. The edge is plain.
