History and design
This is a collector version of the 5 Pounds - Charles III Bond Films Completer. The history below is that coin's; the mintage, varieties and collecting notes on its page do not apply to this strike.
The completer is the seventh and last coin in the Royal Mint's Six Decades of 007 collection, a run of £5 crowns made as a licensed product with EON Productions and Danjaq. Six coins each take one decade of James Bond films, from the 1960s to the 2010s. This one, in the Mint's words, "celebrates the overall legacy of the James Bond franchise, with a nod to each era in the design".
It was authorised by a proclamation that came into force on 3 October 2024, which set the design for coins from a cupro-nickel £5 up to gold pieces of ten thousand pounds face value. The cupro-nickel crown was sold as a Brilliant Uncirculated coin in a pack recounting the history and impact of the films.
How many were made is not known. The Mint's commemorative sales pages stop at 2023-dated coins, and the product page for the Brilliant Uncirculated coin gives no issue limit. It was never issued into change.
Matt Dent and Christian Davies, who designed every coin in the series, drew the reverse. The Royal Mint says the coin brings together the six vehicles that feature on the other coins in the collection, so the craft from each decade coin meet in one design. The proclamation describes it as six vehicles from James Bond films over the last six decades with the inscriptions 007 and SIX DECADES OF 007.
The gun barrel effect from the opening of every Bond film radiates from the centre and forms the base of the design. The 007 logo completes the design, styled as it appears today.
The obverse carries the portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings, with CHARLES III D G REX F D 5 POUNDS and the date 2024. The edge is milled.
