History and design

This is a collector version of the 50 Pence - Charles III The King's Trust. The history below is that coin's; the mintage, varieties and collecting notes on its page do not apply to this strike.

The King's Trust 50p marks 50 years of the charity founded by King Charles III when he was Prince of Wales. The Royal Mint's account is that in 1976 he used his Navy severance pay to fund several community projects, which became the foundations of what was long known as The Prince's Trust. The Mint says the charity has since helped more than 1.2 million young people across the UK to get ready for work, find a job or start a business.

The coin was revealed on 2 January 2026 as one of five commemorative designs in the Royal Mint's 2026 Annual Sets. It is the odd one out. The Mint said the other four would also be sold individually during the year, but the King's Trust 50p is available only as part of the sets. It was not issued for circulation, and no figure for the number struck has been published.

The reverse is by Jessica Gregorio, a graphic designer who was herself helped by the Trust. The Royal Mint says it reflects the journey and hopes of the young people the charity supports: a flowing stream recalls the Royal Navy origin of the Trust's first funds, the sun stands for optimism and the clouds for dreams and ambitions.

The royal proclamation describes "four people undertaking computing, bicycle repair, medicine and sailing with The King's Trust logo", with the inscriptions THE KING'S TRUST and 50 YEARS WORKING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE. The obverse has the portrait of the King by Martin Jennings with CHARLES III D G REX F D 50 PENCE and the date 2026. The edge is plain.
