Common questions

How much is the 2025 50 Pence - Charles III Red Arrows worth?

Verified sold prices for the 2025 50 Pence - Charles III Red Arrows run from £6.54 to £44.33 across 4 grades, taking the median for each grade. Condition makes the difference, so check the grade table above before pricing one.

How many colour Red Arrows 50p coins were made?

The Royal Mint's product page gives a maximum coin mintage of 12,510 for the colour Brilliant Uncirculated Red Arrows 50p. That is a limit on how many could be made, not a count of coins sold, and the Mint has not published a sales figure.

How is the colour Red Arrows 50p different from the standard coin?

The design is the same, but the colour edition has the three Hawk T1 aircraft and their trails printed in red, white and blue. The Royal Mint sold it only through its own website, while the standard uncoloured coin was also in the 2025 Annual Set.

Is the colour Red Arrows 50p in circulation?

No. It is a Brilliant Uncirculated collector coin sold in a Royal Mint pack. The Mint's circulating mintage figures list only the Atlantic Salmon 50p for 2025, and no Red Arrows 50p of any kind was issued for circulation.

Who designed the Red Arrows 50p?

Nigel Tudman at Tuch Design, according to the Royal Mint. He has said the choice of three aircraft allowed for red, white and blue vapour trails on the coloured versions. The obverse portrait of King Charles III is by Martin Jennings.

How do I identify the 2025 50 Pence - Charles III Red Arrows?

Check the weight 8g and diameter 27.3mm and the metal (copper-nickel) against the specification table on this page. The reverse design is described above.

History and design

This is the colour-printed version of the 2025 Red Arrows 50p, the Royal Mint's coin for 60 years of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team's displays. The standard coin first appeared in the Mint's 2025 Annual Set. When the design was launched on its own on 6 February 2025, the Mint said a selection of the coins had been made in colour to bring out the speed and agility the team is known for.

The colour Brilliant Uncirculated coin carries a stated maximum coin mintage of 12,510 and, like the other colour editions, was available only from the Royal Mint. It was never issued for circulation: the Mint's circulating mintage figures list only the Atlantic Salmon 50p for 2025.

The reverse is by Nigel Tudman at Tuch Design and shows three BAE Systems Hawk T1 aircraft with their trails, above the inscription RED ARROWS. On this edition the design is printed in colour, with the red, white and blue trails used in the team's displays.

Colour was part of the thinking from the start. Tudman has said that settling on three aircraft, after trying formations of nine, seven and five, "allowed for red, white and blue vapour trails on the coloured versions".

The obverse carries Martin Jennings' portrait of King Charles III with the inscription CHARLES III D G REX F D 50 PENCE and the date 2025. The edge is plain.

Collecting notes

No recognised varieties or mint errors are documented for this coin.

Look for a coin still in its Royal Mint pack. On a loose example, check the printed colour for scuffs and scratches as well as the usual handling marks.

The Mint lists three colour editions in all: this cupro-nickel coin, a silver proof with a stated maximum of 6,610 and a silver proof piedfort. A seller's "colour Red Arrows 50p" could be any of them, so check the metal and the packaging. Weight alone will not separate the first two: the Mint lists both the cupro-nickel coin and the silver proof at 8 g.

The standard Red Arrows 50p has the same design without colour. Colour applied to a standard coin outside the Mint is not this edition.
