History and design
This is a collector version of the 10 Pence - Elizabeth II – F - Fish and Chips. The history below is that coin's; the mintage, varieties and collecting notes on its page do not apply to this strike.
The Royal Mint gave the letter F to fish and chips when it issued its A to Z 10p coins in 2018. The series of 26 designs, The Great British Coin Hunt: Quintessentially British A to Z, was revealed on 1 March 2018, and Coin World's launch report opened with the point that people would soon be able to buy fish and chips with a 10p that celebrated them.
The Royal Mint's page for the coin calls the dish a national institution: freshly cooked, salted and doused with vinegar, wrapped in newspaper and eaten outdoors. It ties the meal to seaside holidays and pay-day treats, and says Churchill called fish and chips the good companions. Change Checker adds that the dish first appeared in Great Britain in the 1860s and that by 1930 there were more than 35,000 fish and chip shops in the UK.
The Mint's circulating figures are 220,000 dated 2018 and 84,000 dated 2019: 304,000 altogether.
Change Checker describes the reverse as fish around a large letter F, surrounded by chips.
The reverse is credited to The Royal Mint Team. The obverse carries Jody Clark's portrait of Elizabeth II, the fifth used on UK coins, with the denomination and date. The coin is nickel-plated steel, the 10p alloy since January 2012, with a milled edge.
