Verified sold prices for the 2018 10 Pence - Elizabeth II – C - Cricket run from £3.65 to £3.84 across 3 grades, taking the median for each grade. Condition makes the difference, so check the grade table above before pricing one.

How many Cricket 10p coins were made?

The Royal Mint records 220,000 Cricket 10p coins for circulation dated 2018 and a further 84,000 dated 2019. That is 304,000 in total. The 2018 figure is shared by all 26 letters of the A to Z series.

Is the Cricket 10p rare?

By circulating standards it is scarce: 304,000 across two dates, set against 33,300,000 standard 10p coins dated 2017 in the Royal Mint's figures. Within the A to Z series it is average, since most letters have exactly the same mintages for both years.

Who designed the Cricket 10p?

The reverse is credited to The Royal Mint Team by both the Royal Mint and Coin Hunter, with no individual named. The obverse portrait of Elizabeth II is the fifth definitive portrait, the work of Jody Clark.

What does the Cricket 10p show?

The reverse shows a batsman striking a ball beside a large letter C. It stands for cricket in the Royal Mint's alphabet of British themes. Coin World reported that cricket was voted favourite sport with 48 per cent in the poll behind the series.

Is the Cricket 10p still in circulation?

Yes. It was issued for general circulation from March 2018 and has not been withdrawn. With 304,000 struck over two dates, among the very large number of 10p coins in use, it is seldom seen in change.

How do I identify the 2018 10 Pence - Elizabeth II – C - Cricket?

Check the weight 6.5g and diameter 24.5mm and the metal (nickel plated steel) against the specification table on this page. The reverse design is described above.

History and design

Cricket took the letter C when the Royal Mint put an alphabet of British themes on the 10p in 2018. The 26 coins, titled The Great British Coin Hunt: Quintessentially British A to Z, were revealed on 1 March 2018 and began entering circulation that month.

According to Coin World's report of the launch, the subjects were informed by a 2017 poll of UK residents, and cricket came out as the favourite sport with 48 per cent of votes against 29 per cent for football. The Royal Mint's page for the coin calls cricket the Great British pastime, says it became the national sport in the 18th century and spread around the world in the 19th and 20th, and dates its first formal laws to the Marylebone Cricket Club at Lord's in 1835.

The Mint's circulating figures are 220,000 dated 2018 and 84,000 dated 2019, a total of 304,000. For scale, it lists 33,300,000 ordinary 10p coins dated 2017.

The reverse shows a batsman striking a ball, set beside a large letter C. Change Checker describes it as a man playing cricket alongside the letter. The denomination and date are on the obverse, with the fifth portrait of Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.

The Royal Mint and Coin Hunter both credit the reverse to The Royal Mint Team. The coin is nickel-plated steel and has a milled edge.

Collecting notes

The two dates are different coins as far as scarcity goes. The Royal Mint struck 220,000 dated 2018 and 84,000 dated 2019, and the reverse does not change, so look at the obverse. In 2019 the C coin matches most of the alphabet at 84,000; only Q, R, W, Y and Z were struck in smaller numbers that year.

No ordinary 10p was recorded for circulation in 2018 or 2019, so a 10p of either date found in change will be one of the 26 letters. The Royal Mint sold uncirculated examples as well, singly and in complete sets of 26.

A sterling silver proof dated 2018 has the same design and the same weight and diameter as the circulating piece. Next in the alphabet are B, James Bond and D, Double Decker Bus.
