Common questions
How much is the 2018 10 Pence - Elizabeth II – W - World Wide Web worth?
Verified sold prices for the 2018 10 Pence - Elizabeth II – W - World Wide Web run from £3.36 to £6.15 across 3 grades, taking the median for each grade. Condition makes the difference, so check the grade table above before pricing one.
How many World Wide Web 10p coins were made?
The Royal Mint's circulating figures show 220,000 dated 2018 and 63,000 dated 2019, a total of 283,000. That total is the lowest in the A to Z series, shared with the Y and Z coins, because most letters had 84,000 in 2019.
Is the World Wide Web 10p rare?
The 2019 coin is one of the three scarcest in the series. In the Royal Mint's figures only 63,000 were issued, the same as Y and Z and below every other letter. The 2018 coin, at 220,000, is no scarcer than the other 25 designs of that date.
Which is the rarest A to Z 10p?
In the Royal Mint's figures the lowest mintage is 63,000, shared by three 2019 coins: W for World Wide Web, Y for Yeoman Warder and Z for Zebra Crossing. The 2019 R coin follows at 64,000 and Q at 83,000. All 2018 coins had 220,000.
Why does the World Wide Web 10p show a spider's web?
The design is a visual pun. A large letter W sits over a spider's web to stand for the World Wide Web, which the Royal Mint describes as invented by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 and as one of the greatest inventions in human history.
Who designed the World Wide Web 10p?
The Royal Mint credits the reverse to The Royal Mint Team without naming an individual, and Coin Hunter gives the same credit. The obverse carries the fifth portrait of Elizabeth II by Jody Clark, which is used on all 26 coins.

History and design
W for World Wide Web brings modern technology into the Royal Mint's A to Z 10p series, the 26 coins issued for circulation in 2018 as The Great British Coin Hunt: Quintessentially British A to Z. When the series was revealed on 1 March 2018, the Mint's chief executive Anne Jessopp singled it out in the press release, listing "technological advancements such as Tim Berners-Lee's World Wide Web" among the things the designs celebrate.
The coin matters to collectors for its second date. In the Royal Mint's figures 220,000 were issued dated 2018, like every other letter, but only 63,000 dated 2019. Most letters had 84,000 that year. W, Y and Z share the 63,000 figure, the lowest of the 52 date and letter combinations, with R next at 64,000. The W total across both dates is 283,000.
The reverse places a large letter W over a spider's web, a pun on the name. The Royal Mint says the World Wide Web was invented by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 and traces it from the first web browser page in 1990 through dial-up connections to fibre optic broadband, Google, Wikipedia and social media.
The Mint's verse for the coin ties it to the hunt itself: "If the trail goes cold, to the wide web we'll turn, the location of our next coin, here we'll discern."
The reverse is credited to The Royal Mint Team. The obverse carries Jody Clark's fifth portrait of Elizabeth II. The coin is nickel-plated steel with a milled edge.
Collecting notes
The date decides everything with this coin. The reverse is identical on both issues, so a 2019 example can only be identified by the date on the obverse. Check it on any coin offered as the scarce one, and ask for a clear photograph of the obverse when buying unseen.
No recognised varieties or mint errors are documented for this coin.
The 63,000 figure covers coins issued for circulation only. The Royal Mint also sold a 2019 uncirculated set of all 26 letters, and a sterling silver proof of the W design dated 2018 with the same weight and diameter as the circulating coin. The other two 63,000 coins are Y, Yeoman Warder and Z, Zebra Crossing.
