History and design

This is a collector version of the 50 Pence - Charles III The flying Car. The history below is that coin's; the mintage, varieties and collecting notes on its page do not apply to this strike.

The Flying Car 50p is a 2025 collector coin from the Royal Mint's Harry Potter range, with a design credited to Warner Bros. It recalls the moment in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when Harry Potter and Ron Weasley fly an enchanted Ford Anglia to Hogwarts.

The Mint describes it as the third coin in its collection celebrating moments from the stories. The Winged Keys and The Black Lake, both dated 2024, came before it, and The Patronus followed later in 2025. The Mint's design list shows four earlier Harry Potter 50p coins, dated 2022 and 2023.

It was not issued for circulation. The Royal Mint's circulating mintage figures list only the Atlantic Salmon 50p for 2025, and the Mint sold this design as a Brilliant Uncirculated coin. Coin Hunter gives the release date as 20 March 2025. No sales figure has been published.

The Royal Mint credits the reverse to Warner Bros and names no individual artist. The proclamation describes it as "a depiction of a flying car accompanied by the inscription THE FLYING CAR". The Mint calls the design charming and stylised, and says it is brought to life in colour on certain editions.

The denomination is on the obverse, which carries Martin Jennings' portrait of King Charles III with the inscription CHARLES III D G REX F D 50 PENCE and the date 2025. The edge is plain.
