Common questions
How much is the 2026 50 Pence - Charles III (Game of Thrones - Ice) worth?
No verified sale of the 2026 50 Pence - Charles III (Game of Thrones - Ice) has been logged on MyCoinage yet.
What is the difference between the two Game of Thrones Ice 50p coins?
The Royal Mint sells the cupro-nickel Ice 50p in two finishes. One is a plain Brilliant Uncirculated coin. The other has the same Night King design struck with colour printing on the reverse and comes in pop-out packaging made for display.
Can you find the Game of Thrones Ice 50p in change?
Not as an issued circulating coin. The Royal Mint has sold it to order since 15 July 2026 and has announced no release through banks or post offices, so an example found in change was bought and then spent.
Is the coloured Game of Thrones Ice 50p limited?
The Royal Mint's page for the colour Brilliant Uncirculated coin shows no maximum mintage and no sales figure has been published. Only the precious-metal versions carry stated limits: 7,511 for the silver proof colour coin and 110 for the gold proof.
Is the Game of Thrones Ice 50p part of a set?
It is one of two coins. The Royal Mint released Ice and Fire together to mark 15 years of the series, with the Night King on the Ice coin and one of Daenerys's dragons on the Fire coin. Each is sold separately.
How do I identify the 2026 50 Pence - Charles III (Game of Thrones - Ice)?
Check the weight 8g and diameter 27.3mm and the metal (copper-nickel) against the specification table on this page. The reverse design is described above.
History and design
Ice is the colder half of the Royal Mint's two-coin Game of Thrones release of 15 July 2026, issued for the 15th anniversary of the series alongside a Fire coin. The Mint worked with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products on both, and presented the pair as built around the two elements it sees as defining the series, ice and fire.
This entry covers the cupro-nickel coin, which exists plain and with colour printing. Neither was issued for circulation. The Mint sells both to order from its website, with delivery promised for autumn 2026, and the Royal Mint's circulating mintage figures contain nothing dated 2026 so far.
The Night King fills the reverse in close-up, accompanied by what the Mint calls his personal sigil and by the inscription GAME OF THRONES. Ffion Rees is credited with the design. On the colour version the same design carries colour printing.
The obverse has the Martin Jennings portrait of King Charles III, the inscription CHARLES III D G REX F D 50 PENCE and the date 2026. The edge is plain, and the coin matches a circulating 50p in size, weight and alloy.
Collecting notes
No recognised varieties or mint errors are documented for this coin.
Identify the finish before anything else. The plain coin has no printing. The colour coin has a printed reverse and was supplied in special edition pop-out packaging. The Mint states no maximum mintage for either and has published no sales numbers, so there is no basis yet for calling one scarcer than the other.
Buy on condition. Look over a colour coin for scratches in the print, and any loose coin for fingerprints and contact marks. A coin still in its Royal Mint packaging is as issued.
The design also exists as a colour-printed silver proof (maximum 7,511) and a gold proof (maximum 110). The first entry for this design is the Game of Thrones Ice 50p.
