No verified sale of the 2025 5 Pounds - Charles III Leek and Daffodil - Wales has been logged on MyCoinage yet.

Where was the Wales daffodil and leek £5 sold?

At the Royal Mint Experience, the visitor centre at the Mint's site in Llantrisant, South Wales. Dealer listings quoting the Mint's own description say the coin is exclusively available there as a special memento of a visit.

Who designed the daffodil and leek £5?

The heraldic artist Timothy Noad. The design first appeared on the 2013 Wales £1, one of four floral emblem round pounds he designed for the Royal Mint in 2013 and 2014. The portrait of King Charles III on the obverse is by Martin Jennings.

How many Wales daffodil and leek £5 coins were made?

Is the Wales £5 coin legal tender?

Yes. The royal proclamation of December 2024 makes the cupro-nickel £5 with this design legal tender for any amount in the United Kingdom. It was sold as a proof souvenir, not issued into change, and the Royal Mint says banks are not required to accept crowns.

History and design

This £5 is one of four base-metal proof crowns dated 2025 that celebrate the floral emblems of the four nations of the United Kingdom, one each for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. All four were authorised by a single royal proclamation, made on 18 December 2024 and published in the Gazette two days later.

The coins were made for the Royal Mint Experience, the visitor centre at the Mint's site in Llantrisant, and dealer listings quoting the Mint describe the Wales coin as exclusively available there as a memento of a visit. The idea was not new. In 2024 the Experience sold its own range of £5 base proofs, The Four Nations: Coins for a Kingdom, which revived Norman Sillman's national designs from the round £1 coins of the 1990s. The 2025 coins turned instead to the floral £1 designs of 2013 and 2014.

No struck or sold figure has been published. The Royal Mint's commemorative sales pages end with coins dated 2023.

The reverse is the floral emblem of Wales drawn by the heraldic artist Timothy Noad for the 2013 Wales £1: a daffodil and a leek, the two national emblems of Wales. The 2013 coin was struck for circulation, 5,270,000 of them in the Royal Mint's figures, and carried the Welsh edge inscription PLEIDIOL WYF I'M GWLAD. On the crown the design is enlarged to 38.61mm and the proclamation adds the inscription FIVE POUNDS.

The obverse has Martin Jennings's portrait of King Charles III with the inscription CHARLES III D G REX F D 5 POUNDS and the date. The proclamation specifies a grained (milled) edge, so the £1's edge lettering does not carry over.

Collecting notes

No recognised varieties or mint errors are documented for this coin.

The coin is cupro-nickel, 28.28g and 38.61mm, struck to proof quality. Proof fields mark easily, so check for hairlines and fingerprints on any example that has been handled. Because it was sold at Llantrisant rather than by post, buying one usually means going through a dealer or a visitor.

The other floral crowns of the same year include the England rose and oak £5. The original design can be seen on the 2013 Wales £1.
