No. With 10,191,000 struck it is the most plentiful of the 35 commemorative £2 designs in the Royal Mint's circulating figures. The other 2005 commemorative, the Gunpowder Plot £2, had 5,140,500, and the scarcest £2 coins were struck in numbers below one million.
Who designed the St Paul's Cathedral £2?
The reverse is by Bob Elderton, also credited as Robert Elderton. The Royal Mint says he was inspired by an image of St Paul's lit by searchlights forming a V for Victory. The obverse portrait of Elizabeth II is by Ian Rank-Broadley.
What does the edge of the 2005 Second World War £2 say?
The edge reads IN VICTORY MAGNANIMITY IN PEACE GOODWILL in incuse letters on a milled edge, as set out in the royal proclamation. The lettering can face either side of the coin. The Royal Mint says there is no right or wrong way up.
What does the 2005 St Paul's £2 commemorate?
It marks the sixtieth anniversary of the end of the Second World War, which is why the reverse carries the dates 1945-2005. St Paul's Cathedral, which survived the bombing of London, was chosen as a symbol of hope for a nation under siege.
How do I identify the 2005 2 Pounds - Elizabeth II – St. Paul's Cathedral?

History and design
The 2005 St Paul's Cathedral £2 marks the sixtieth anniversary of the end of the Second World War. It was authorised by a royal proclamation given on 9 February 2005 and was one of two commemorative £2 coins that year, the other being the Gunpowder Plot coin.
The Royal Mint's figures record 10,191,000 struck for circulation. That is the highest mintage of the 35 commemorative £2 designs in the Mint's circulating figures, ahead of the 9,550,000 of the 2016 First World War Army coin. It is also far more than the standard Technology £2 of 2005, which had 3,837,250, so this is by far the most numerous £2 dated 2005.
The reverse is by Bob Elderton. It shows St Paul's Cathedral illuminated by searchlights, with TWO POUNDS above and the dates 1945-2005 below. The Royal Mint explains the choice: the cathedral survived the Blitz, including the raid of 29 December 1940, and became a symbol of hope. Elderton was struck by an image of St Paul's lit by searchlights forming a V for Victory, and the Mint records him saying the coin "more or less designed itself".
The edge is milled with the incuse inscription IN VICTORY MAGNANIMITY IN PEACE GOODWILL. The obverse carries the fourth coinage portrait of Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank-Broadley, with the legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REG FID DEF.
Varieties and errors
No recognised varieties or mint errors are documented for this coin.
Upside-down edge lettering is often listed as an error on £2 coins. The Royal Mint has said it is not: the inscription is rolled onto the blank before the faces are struck, so it can point towards either side.
Collecting notes
This is the highest-mintage commemorative £2, and it remains legal tender. Because it is so common, condition is what separates one coin from another. Check that the searchlight beams and the detail of the dome are sharp, that the inner disc is centred and that the edge inscription is complete.
The proclamation also provided for silver and gold versions, sold to collectors. The gold coin has the same lettering on a plain edge. The other commemorative of the year is the Gunpowder Plot £2, with about half the mintage.
