History and design
The NHS 10p is the letter N coin in the Royal Mint's A to Z series, 26 circulating 10p coins revealed on 1 March 2018 as The Great British Coin Hunt: Quintessentially British A to Z. Most letters in the set mark something timeless. This one had a date attached, because the health service reached its 70th anniversary a few months after the coins appeared.
The Royal Mint's page for the coin says the NHS opened its doors in 1948 and would turn 70 on 5 July 2018. It sets out the three principles the service was founded on: that it meets the needs of everyone, that it is free at the point of delivery, and that it is based on clinical need, not the ability to pay. The Mint's verse for the letter calls the NHS "the health and the heart of our nation".

The reverse shows a stethoscope looped around a large letter N, its tubing drawn so that it forms a heart. The heart picks up the Mint's own description of the service and keeps the design to a single plain symbol.
