History and design

This is a collector version of the 5 Pounds - Charles III Iron Maiden. The history below is that coin's; the mintage, varieties and collecting notes on its page do not apply to this strike.

The Royal Mint unveiled the Iron Maiden £5 on 8 July 2025 to mark fifty years since the East London band formed in 1975. It joined the Mint's Music Legends series, which had already featured Queen, Elton John and David Bowie. The Mint says it was the first official collectable product to carry the band's 50th anniversary logo, and the band worked closely with the Mint throughout the design process.

The band's manager, Rod Smallwood, said Eddie had now been on "stamps, beer bottles, plane tails and now legal tender", calling the coin a continuation of the mascot's odyssey since the band "unearthed him back in 1980".

As a £5 crown it was sold to collectors rather than issued for change. No struck or sold figure has been published.

The reverse is by Alberto "Akirant" Quirantes, a contemporary Iron Maiden artist and a lifelong fan of the band and of Derek Riggs's original Eddie artwork of the 1980s. It shows Eddie in a dynamic pose, and the royal proclamation describes him with a gravestone, pyramids and ruins, accompanied by the inscription IRON MAIDEN EST.1975. Quirantes hid several references in the design to the band's albums, tours and best-loved songs, leaving collectors to find them.

The obverse carries Martin Jennings's portrait of King Charles III with CHARLES III D G REX F D 5 POUNDS and the date. The edge is milled. The same proclamation authorised the five Portraits of a Queen £5 designs.
