Design

A swimmer mid-stroke with water lines obscuring half their face, designed by Jonathan Olliffe. The obverse carries Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II — used on every UK circulating coin between 1998 and 2015. Edge: plain (no inscription, no milling).

The famous "lines through the face" version was withdrawn early — only a small number with the original design entered circulation. The vast majority show clear water without crossing the swimmer's face.
